The show pre-Broadway try-out at the Chicago's Cadillac Palace was
sold out before it even started. Ron Orbach, who played German
Nazi deifier Franz Liebkind, injured his knee when the show was in
rehearsal. Orbach, missed the previews & opening night but returned
to the production Feb. 20. His spirit was willing but the body wasn't ready,
and Orbach left again before the end of the Chicago run. Brad Oscar filled in during rehearsals & on opening night.
Later on, when it became clear that Orbach would not be well
enough to re-join the Broadway cast, Oscar was made the permanent replacement.
